Key Highlights by Lake
Kawaguchiko: Most practical, best transport connections, good Fuji reflections on still mornings. Kawaguchiko Herb and Flower Park has the most accessible photography spots.
Motosuko: The reverse of Japan’s ¥1,000 banknote was photographed from the northwestern shore. The precise composition that appears on the note can be replicated from a specific spot. Deepest and clearest of the five lakes.
Yamanakako: The Diamond Fuji phenomenon (sun aligning exactly with the summit) can be seen from the lake on dates between roughly October and February, depending on where you stand along the shore. The mountain appears larger from here than from any other lake — the most dramatic profile photography.
