Key Highlights by Lake

Kawaguchiko: Most practical, best transport connections, good Fuji reflections on still mornings. Kawaguchiko Herb and Flower Park has the most accessible photography spots.

Motosuko: The reverse of Japan’s ¥1,000 banknote was photographed from the northwestern shore. The precise composition that appears on the note can be replicated from a specific spot. Deepest and clearest of the five lakes.

Yamanakako: The Diamond Fuji phenomenon (sun aligning exactly with the summit) occurs twice yearly around the equinoxes. The mountain appears larger from here than from any other lake — the most dramatic profile photography.

Activities: Kayaking and canoeing (Kawaguchiko, Yamanakako, Saiko) · Cycling (rental bikes at Kawaguchiko and Yamanakako — early morning before traffic) · Narusawa Ice Cave and Fugaku Wind Cave (near Saiko, year-round below-freezing temperatures, remarkable ice formations, excellent in summer).
