🚃 Seibu Laview Train
One of Japan’s most acclaimed train designs — curved glass wrapping around each car, large windows filling nearly the entire wall, pale gold and silver interior. Multiple design award winner. The 80-min journey to Chichibu is worth experiencing even before the destination.
🌊 Nagatoro Gorge
Ancient metamorphic rock (500 million years), dramatic platforms, rapids. River rafting through gorge rapids (March–November). The Iwadatami (岩畳) rock platform — a Natural Monument of geometric crystalline schist — is extraordinary geological spectacle. Autumn foliage peak is one of the finest in the Kanto region.
🥃 Ichiro’s Malt & Sake
Ichiro’s Malt whisky (Isca Distillery) — now one of the world’s most sought-after Japanese whiskies — was born in Chichibu. Sake breweries using pure mountain water give the valley a drinks culture far exceeding expectations for a mountain town.
🎆 Chichibu Night Festival (December 2–3)
One of Japan’s three great float festivals (alongside Kyoto Gion and Takayama). Enormous Edo-period floats + fireworks launched from the hillside directly above — rockets launching from above and exploding at eye level or below. An experience with no equivalent elsewhere in Japan.
